If You Could Be Any Age......

The year would be 1992 and I am 10 years old. Right around this age I would be between third and fourth grades with not a care in the world. I would still be spending everyday playing outside no matter what the temperature is, and wearing shorts in the winter and pants in the summer! Although I did have a horrible hairstyle, which I thought was great at the time.

This to me was the perfect age. You are not worried about your looks and for the most part everyone is your friend. There are no cliques, or you are not concerned about them anyways. I was spending my days catching wild cats, which I still do.

So if you could be any age, what age would you choose?

Some of the Best Advice

I am not one for giving advice to other people but I came across this and thought it was some of the best advice I had seen in a long time.

So for work tonight I made cupcakes, 75 tiny cupcakes to be exact.

They look very delicious and are my nephew Garrett's favorite, Funfetti. They love when I bring cupcakes to work.

Lost in Time Photograph

I have always thought I was born in the wrong decade. Since I was a little girl I just knew I belonged in the sixties and seventies. I always had long hair and I remember making flower headbands. I was in love with peace signs, my dream car was a convertible VW Bug, and I wanted to go to Woodstock and roll around in the mud while listening to some amazing music.

When I was going through a box of my grandmother's photos, I came across this picture of my cousin Debbie, my mom, and my cousin Diane at a beach in Florida when they were 17. This would make it the summer of 1970.

I love looking through old photos like this. There is just something about the style in which they were taken. This one just happens to be very "summery", which is why I have chose to display it.

I love this one of my mom and I absolutely love her swimsuit. I would have loved to been in this picture with them. This is one of those times I wish I had a time machine so I could go live a different life.

The Lasagna......

Used the leftover spaghetti sauce to make lasagna with ricotta, mozzarella, and Parmesan cheeses. It was tastier than the spaghetti in my opinion, well for those of you who like cheese anyways! :-) I think I did a fabulous job on both these dinners! Hope your mouths are watering looking at the pictures!

Cooking Lesson #1 - Italian Spaghetti Sauce

Yesterday I was tasked with making dinner, which I happen to like since I can't make dinner at my house for one person. (My mom would most likely not eat what I cook, or else she would eat a small amount leaving me to consume what's left. That most likely means half of it would be thrown away after sitting in the fridge so about a week or two.)

The recipe was called Jo Mama's Famous Spaghetti Recipe from Food.com. (Follow the link for the entire recipe.)

The ingredients ran about $36.

Darn onions made my eyes sting!

Browning some Italian sausage.

I have never cooked with garlic before. I had to "mince" it and I had no clue what I was doing.

Added basil, parsley, brown sugar, red pepper flakes, salt and pepper

Never cooked with wine before either. This was a cabernet from Australia called Down Under. It was only $5.99 in the liquor store and pretty tasty too.
My finished product. I was thinking it would have been tasty with a nice Red Wine Sangria, but I didn't have the other ingredients for that so I added orange juice to my red wine. (That really helped out the flavor.) It was some very strong wine too. I got a buzz from just one glass.

I let it simmer for 3 hours to really soak up the flavor. I do believe I did a fabulous job too. The recipe says it makes 10-14 serving so for three people there was a lot of sauce left over. So tomorrow we are gonna try to use the rest to make a lasagna of sorts. I will let you know about the results from that cooking experience at another time.

I was wondering if she was wearing cowboy boots under her wedding dress!! I love it!!

I love the bridesmaids cowboy boots with their dresses.

An Original Poem

The Last Time We Said Goodbye

When I think of you
a smile begins to form;
lips parting, a hint of teeth
visible beneath them.

I close my eyes,
the memory takes hold
Smiling and laughing,
the scene playing in my mind.

Lifting my arm, fingers apart
Running them through thick
red hair, looking in your eyes,
it’s time to go.

Arms wrapped around your neck,
pulling you close to me
I stay, holding my breath,
keeping the moment.

You step back, our bodies
fall apart; arms crossed
hands in pockets, smiling
and turning away.

I look back to you,
saying one more goodbye,
caught in the sun’s light,
your heads on fire.

One Night in Paris...Une nuit à Paris

This is a paper I wrote and just got back today, that I wrote for my feature writing class. I got an A- on the paper, I am so excited.

As I stepped off the metro platform, I was giddy with anticipation. I couldn’t believe I was about to see the infamous La Tour Eiffel, a sculpture that had decorated my bedroom walls, shelves and even the floor for years.

It was our first of three nights in Paris, and this was going to be my first stop. Talia and I had taken the metro from our hotel room in Montmartre. The area around Paris is roughly six miles and you can get to most places on foot. Since we were not too familiar with the language and we were in a foreign country, we thought it better safe than sorry to take the metro instead of walking. It was a long train ride with various stops and the changing of one train to another, but we finally made it.

As we exited the Champ de Mars-Tour Eiffel station, we hurried off the platform and up the steps, nothing yet. I was not sure how far away the Eiffel Tower was from the station, but I hoped it wasn’t too far. We walked past a cart selling all kinds of trinkets from Eiffel Tower t-shirts to Eiffel Tower key chains, a staple for any tourists. It was getting late so we hurried past the cart and across the street, following the crowd walking the same direction hoping they were going to the same place that we were. It was then that I looked up and saw it. “Oh my god, there it is!” I shouted, as Talia and I ran closer pulling out our cameras. I couldn’t stand still. I was in shock. We started snapping pictures left and right, and although my camera had broken a week before, it could still take pictures.

Still partially hidden behind some trees, the glow of the Eiffel Tower lights up the Parisian Sky, it was tres magnifique. I don’t even have to close my eyes to remember it. The image will be with me forever. Talia and I ran to the middle of the tower and were almost knocked down by a snake line of people on rollerblades. In 2007, the year I went, over 6 million people visited the tower, and in all its 119 years, 236,445,813 million people have visited the tower.

Still snapping pictures, we walked all around the tower. Unfortunately, it was about to close so we didn’t have enough time to go to the top. I regret not going to the top now, but the line was too long and we didn’t want to miss the last train back to Montmartre. Not to mention that my five-year-old nephew Garrett told me not to go to the top. I asked him why, and he said, “You might fall. It’s dangerous!”
According to Michael Peck, a fellow student and visitor to the Eiffel Tower himself said, “At the top of the tower people have signed their names. I wonder if they have painted over mine. I signed it in 1994.” That makes me wish I had gone up on the top, so I could have left my name up there.

Every three years the tower is painted to keep it from rusting. Some people admire the tower for its structure, which is something magnificent. For me though, I love Eiffel Tower for what it means to me. It means love, romance, mystery, suspense, something foreign, and of course it means Paris, the “city of lights.” For so long it was unattainable, something to only see in pictures or replicas and now it is a memory. I was there. Une nuit à Paris.

Across the street was the Tour Eiffel Carousel, brightly painted horses with children and young adults gathered round. Directly beside that, was the Seine River that runs through the center of Paris cutting it in half. I leaned over the edge and saw the river reflecting the glow of the tower. There are some things that will stay with you forever. It’s as Ernest Hemingway said, "If you are lucky enough to have lived in Paris as a young man (or woman), then wherever you go for the rest of your life it stays with you, for Paris is a moveable feast." He is certainly right about that.

Memorial Day Canoeing 2011

I had such as awesome time canoeing with my coworkers and friends on Memorial Day. We went on the Duck River in Maury County. I haven't been canoeing since I was around 12 when I was in church camp. I think I did pretty good though!

We met at River Rats in Columbia at 10 a.m. and spent the next seven hours on the river. There was beer, lots of laughter, canoe tipping (mainly Ryan and Nikko), and plenty of good memories that were made.

Sam E., Me, Brandy

I had to have Ryan take this picture or else there would not have been one of the girls in the canoe at all.

Jorey (left) and Larry (right) in a boat.

This is Nikko (back) and Ryan (standing), and one of the few times they had not fallen in the water!

We Buffalo Wild Winger's, past and present, really know how to have a good time. (Jorey doesn't work there anymore.) I can't wait to go again!

My 30th Birthday....

With my 30th Birthday fast approaching I am deciding how I want to celebrate. As many of you know I have an intense love for everything Paris, so when I saw this blog post from Hostess {with the Mostess}, I fell in love! These images come from the many French inspired party idea they have on their website.

My personal favorite, the Flirty "French Candy" Party Theme. I love the black and white striped table clothes mixed with the various shades of pink, (a personal favorite color of mine).

This cake is from Las Vegas Custom Cakes is going to be either my future birthday/ bridal shower/ wedding cake. Possibly all three if I am lucky!!

With my birthday being in the winter, I am tempted to push it back and celebrate my 30 1/2 birthday (which I am doing this year) with an actual party and celebrate outside. I can see these decorations decorated outside with millions of twinkle and floating lights, tons of bistro tables and chairs, and a dance floor. I have a feeling this is going to be very, very expensive. Although I do have tons of Eiffel Towers I can already use for decorations! Oh well, better stop saving up now!
