Trying Not to Remember
The mascara runs from her eyes
Black streaks cover her cheeks
Her once perfect face stained.
She tries not to remember his strength
As he held her against the wall
The feel of his hand on her thighs
She tried to scream but he held
The knife against her throat
And looked into her eyes.
She remembers his eyes
There was blankness in them
The darkness frightened her.
He tried to kiss her, his lips on her neck
His smile, she turned her face
His whiskey breath sickened her.
The strap from her ivory dress, broken
Her innocence shattered and taken
She closed her eyes and cried.
She doesn’t remember his strength
She tries not to remember his smile
She can’t help but remember his eyes.
